SCIRT traffic update 28 February and first week of March, 2014
Central city changes
• Barbadoes St is down to one lane south of St Asaph from 28 February/ first week of March for two weeks.
• Manchester St is southbound only from Tuam to St Asaph from Tuesday, 4 March.
• Madras St, near CPIT, down to one lane around the trench outside Countdown Supermarket from 3 March for two weeks.
• St Asaph St between Fitzgerald Ave and Colombo St – seven weeks pipe-lining, manhole to manhole, which will reduce
traffic lanes. Expect turning restrictions at intersections.
• Armagh St between Manchester and Madras St closed to traffic for three weeks.
• No left turn onto Park Terrace from Kilmore St for just a few days.
• Park Terrace will be one-way southbound, Kilmore to Armagh, from Monday 3 March with no right turn from Kilmore
Street. Detour from Monday is via Montreal St and Bealey Ave.
Recommended cross town routes
• Hereford St is clear for week of 3 March – good route into the CBD off Fitzgerald Ave.
• Take Montreal St if northbound.
• Take Fitzgerald Ave if southbound.
• Bealey Ave and Moorhouse Ave are both good for east-west travel, although expect lane drops in some parts of north
side of Bealey Ave, east of Papanui Road, with some intersections closed off.
South-east side of the city
• Ferry Road – one-way, city-bound only from Fitzgerald Ave to Barbadoes St. Note, traffic management is changing frequently in this
area around Jade Stadium – check www.transportforchristchurch.govt.nz for updates.
• SCIRT’s City Care team is installing pressure wastewater mains on Ferry Road between Lancaster St (near the stadium) and Fitzgerald Ave for six weeks from 3 March. Parking will be reduced on the street.
• Moorhouse Ave from Fitzgerald Ave to Lancaster St is receiving roading and stormwater repairs by City Care currently, with Lancaster St and Ferry Road the next stage.

Ellerslie Flower Show, open to Sunday, 2 March, Hagley Park
• Park Terrace is one-way, southbound only from Kilmore to Armagh St.

• Harper Ave (through Hagley Park from Bealey Ave towards Fendalton Road ) is a main way into the North Hagley Park
parking area.

Outside the Four Aves
Brougham Street work this weekend – from Saturday evening, 1 March, to early Monday.
• The two westbound traffic lanes of Brougham St (heading towards the city) will be closed between Waltham and Opawa
Roads. Drivers will be channelled to the other side of Brougham Street to allow two way traffic.
• Wilsons Road will be closed at the Brougham St/Wilsons Road intersection with a detour via Fifield Terrace and Ensors
Road.
• There will be no left hand turn from Opawa Road onto the city-bound lane of Brougham St.
• One lane will be freed up for Sunday on the westbound side of Brougham.
Opawa Road/ Garlands Road – four weeks work repairing the wastewater main from Opawa Road/ Brougham St intersection along Opawa Road to Grange
St. At times there will be no entry to Garlands Road, city-side, off Opawa Road while work is in the intersection.
Thursday, 6 March, Somerfield - Frankleigh St, affecting Lyttelton St/ Sparks Road roundabout - one night closure
SCIRT’s City Care team needs to repair the stormwater main in Frankleigh St, east of the roundabout. Work will run
overnight from 8pm Thursday when traffic volumes are small. Detours will be in place.
