The Kilbirnie Festival is now in its 19th consecutive year, and is one of Wellington’s biggest and longest-running
outdoor community events. It is managed as a partnership between the Kilbirnie/Lyall Bay Community Centre and Martin
Wilson of Capital Productions, and is supported by WCC. It attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Bay Rd annually on
the second Sunday in March, starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm.
Locals are warmly invited to participate in any ways you like: performer, stallholder, information stall, fundraiser,
membership drive, just attend and enjoy; or get in touch with your ideas.
There are well over 100 craft stalls from all over the region and New Zealand; plus, lots of food stalls, two excellent
and interesting (usually at different times) stages, a kids activities area, kids rides area, and information displays.
We are lucky to host two nationally renowned performers, Rosita Vai and Ainslie Allen. Rosita had a major success in a
recent TV talent show and her career has gone from strength to strength since. Being a local, we welcome her
participation. She will be accompanied by renowned musician Alexey Medvedev. Ainslie Allen is also known for her TV
appearances, as well as singing at major sports events, Christmas In The Park, and many other big events. She has
recently recorded a new album, “The A-Sides”, and will perform material from that along with other favourites.

The Blues Trio
A feature this year will be the Wellington Time Bank Kids’ Zone, an area where the little ones and their parents can
enjoy a range of play facilities, for which there is no charge. The Wellington Time Bank is a community initiative
whereby people trade an hour of their time with an hour of others’ time, accessing skills and experience and sharing
their own. Time Banks are proving to be tremendous community-builders world-wide, replacing the lost sense of belonging
and exchange. The Kids’ Zone will be in the Kilbirnie Plaza mall area.
