Wellington Cable Car Nets A Deal With Snapper.
24th February, 2014
Wellington, New Zealand.
Paying for your ride on the Cable Car just got quicker and easier for Wellingtonians and visitors to the capital city with the iconic Wellington attraction now accepting Snapper.
The project, a joint initiative by Wellington Cable Car Limited (WCCL) and Snapper, commences its first phase today with the introduction of Snapper readers at the Lambton Quay terminus which will support all journeys that begin or end at this location.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says integrated ticketing for the iconic Cable Car is an excellent step. “Snapper is local technology benefiting local people’s everyday transport choices.”
Paying with Snapper is not only more convenient than cash, it will also allow customers to enjoy a significant discount off the standard adult fare. Children and tertiary students will receive discounted fares once they have the concession applied to their Snapper.
The second phase of the project will add support for journeys from the intermediary stops of Clifton, Talavera and Salamanca (University) by installing Snapper readers on the Cable Cars in addition to Lambton Quay, and will also include the addition of multi-trip travel passes which can be purchased and loaded onto a Snapper.
Wellington Cable Car CEO Simon Fleisher says “Snapper is an excellent choice for Cable Car passengers and will enable us to provide better and more flexible ticketing options for everybody, including the 22,000 students and staff who use Victoria University’s campus at Kelburn. It also links really well with Snapper cardholders who already use these on buses within Wellington.
This exciting project should also speed up passenger processing throughput at Lambton Quay, which can get quite congested on busy days, particularly when cruise ships are visiting.”
Snapper CEO Miki Szikszai says, “Snapper is proud to be part of the fabric of Wellington and we’re looking forward to being of service to the Cable Car and their customers.
Snapper is built on a single idea of making every day easier. It doesn't matter if you are taking the bus, buying a coffee, catching a taxi, paying for your parking, and now taking a ride on the Cable Car, Snapper is all about making those transactions instant and easy so you can just get on with your day.”
