Indecent assault, Kirks Bush

Police in Papakura are investigating an indecent assault of a 33 year old woman in Kirks Bush, Papakura. At about 1:40pm
on Thursday 20 February, the woman was walking through Kirks Bush from Beach Road towards the rugby fields at the back
of Kirks Bush.
As she was nearing the rugby fields she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man who put his arms around her face and
body. She was dragged backwards for about 10 metres before she was thrown to the ground. After a struggle, the victim
managed to break free and the offender fled towards Great South Road.
"This brazen daylight attack was very distressing and frightening for the victim," says Detective Sergeant Michele
Gillespie. "We need to apprehend this offender as soon as possible to ensure he does not have the opportunity to do this
to anyone else."
The man is described as about 20 years old of European descent, about 177cm tall of slim to medium build. He was wearing
a blue or grey hoody with the hood up, long pants and heavy shoes or boots.
"Police are interested to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area of Kirks Bush and the surrounding
roads, particularly anyone who may match the description of the offender," says Detective Sergeant Gillespie.
Police advice to people walking alone, particularly in unfamiliar areas, is to avoid dark and isolated places, keep your
cellphone where you can reach it, and if possible walk in view of traffic or other pedestrians.
"Dial 111 immediately if you see any suspicious activity in a park or in your neighbourhood so that Police can have
respond to prevent a crime before it occurs," says Detective Sergeant Gillespie.
Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious between the hours of 1pm and 2pm on Thursday 20 February in the area of
Great South Road, Beach Road and Rosehill Drive, which surrounds Kirks Bush, should contact Police.
