Wellington To Host Interclub Triathlon Champs
Everyone loves to earn ‘bragging rights’ in their chosen sport, whether it is international titles and trophies on the line or the annual family challenge on Christmas Day, the winner gets to talk about it for the next twelve months.
Now triathlon clubs around New Zealand will have that same opportunity with the instigation of an Interclub Triathlon Challenge at the Wellington round of the .kiwi Tri Series on March 8.
The idea sprang from host club Wellington Tri Club who suggested throwing out a ‘challenge’ to other clubs around the country to race for a trophy and those much admired bragging rights.
“Interclub racing is very popular overseas and we have used the points scoring system that is followed in Australia,” said Wellington Tri Club President Claire Jennings.
“As this is the first year of the event we are looking to keep it simple but in future years we can look at methods to equalise between clubs of different sizes and so on.  For this year we have tried to allow for clubs who have to travel greater distances to race.
“Wellington Tri Club has donated a trophy and .kiwi will provide a .kiwi domain name to the winning club but probably the most prestigious prize will be “bragging rights” for the coming year!”
Wellington Tri Club is also taking on the running of the competition on the day, with individuals able to enjoy their own day while also contributing to the cause of their club.
Clubs and individuals must contact the Wellington Tri Club with a list of members who are taking part and which club they will represent as the current entry system will not automatically do this. This is over and above the normal entry process for the .kiwi Tri Series races viawww.triseries.co.nz
Triathletes and clubs are asked to forward these details to:
Ross Capill – email:rosscapillnz@gmail.com
There is no additional fee for entering the Interclub Challenge on the day and the points system rewards everyone for entering – regardless of their result, with further points earned based on distance travelled and then of course based on finishing results for each athlete (see below).
So get your club-mates organised and register to earn points for your club on the day. Wellington Tri Club has thrown the challenge out there and organised this event – are you up for the Interclub Challenge?
