Art Deco Weekend announces NZ Actor Shane Cortese as official ambassador for 2014
The Art Deco Trust has announced New Zealand actor/singer/dancer Shane Cortese as the official ambassador for the Tremains Art Deco Weekend 2014.
Art Deco Weekend is a four day festival in Napier that celebrates the cities Art Deco heritage and culture, reborn out of a devastating 7.8 earthquake in 1931. Over 200 events take place with a grand total of 35 000 people in attendance.
Art Deco Trust General Manager Sally Jackson says “Art Deco Weekend is a celebration of music, dance, fashion and styles of the 1930s and we are delighted to have Shane Cortese as our ambassador. Not only is be an extremely talented national star, he also has a genuine affection and understanding of the Art Deco era”. We hope having Shane on board will help raise the profile of Art Deco Weekend and make it a “must do” for New Zealanders and Australians”
General Manager of the Hawke’s Bay Regional Tourism organisation, Annie Dundas said “Hawke’s Bay Tourism and the Art Deco Trust have been working together to promote Art Deco Weekend both internationally and within New Zealand and having Shane join the event was one of the elements that will achieve this”.
Shane Cortese said he was excited to join the event. “Napier’s Art Deco Weekend has been on my bucket list for some time and I’m really looking forward to being part of it”
Cortese will be joined by his wife Nerida formerly from Dancing with the Stars, and will attend several of the weekend events including the “Charleston Challenge” at the Soundshell, Marine Parade on Sat 22nd 3pm. Held during intermission of Bathing Belles Fashion Competition this will be the ultimate 1930s dance off. Starting with a lesson, it will culminate in a dance off with the dancer who keeps up with the increased music pace judged the winner.
