Youth Sport team travel fund applications open
The latest application round of the Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund (RTF) which assists Ruapehu youth sport teams attend regular local sport competitions is now open.
Youth sport teams with young people aged between five to 19 years who need financial assistance with travel expenses are encouraged to apply.
Ruapehu District Council (RDC) Senior Accountant, Marc Lorentzen, who administers the RTF for RDC on behalf of Sport NZ, said that last year nine local sports teams benefited from the scheme.
“The recipients came from both schools and clubs and involved youth teams playing polo Crosse, squash, rugby and a pony club,” he said.
“Although the Ruapehu RTF has a relatively modest amount of just under $10,000 to distribute every year we try and ensure that we spread the available funds around as many teams as possible while ensuring the teams can make it to their competitions.”
Mr Lorentzen said that anyone involved with a sport’s team whose members fall within the age criteria, and who requires financial assistance for travel to take part in local competition, should definitely make an application.
“Applications close on Friday 14th March with forms available from all RDC offices, libraries and online.
