Making a move – Walkers make their way to the start line for the Campus 5km Fun Run and Walk.
More than 70 participants laced up and gathered at the University of Waikato to take part in the Campus 5km Fun Run and Walk on Monday 17 February.
Hosted by the University of Waikato, in association with the Waikato Students’ Union and the Hamilton City Hawks Running Club, the event sees both runners and walkers take part in a marked track around the University.
WSU President Aaron Letcher says it’s a great initiative to bring people onto campus and Monday’s turn-out was a great success to be built on.
“It was a great turn out, and we are hoping to grow the event in coming weeks as students return for Semester A on March the 3rd.”
Vendors on campus, including ANZ Bank, Dezigner Hair, Momento Café and Bongo Café & Sushi have backed the event providing spot prizes, some valued up to $165, for participants.
The Campus 5km Fun Run and Walk takes place every Monday till 7 April. Registrations start at 5pm outside Momento Café on the Village Green. Walkers start between 5pm-6pm, while runners start at 6pm. Registrations are $5 which entitle participants to a free beer, house wine, cider or non-alcoholic drink at the end. Spot prizes are also awarded on the night.
The Campus 5km Fun Run and Walk is in association with the Waikato Students’ Union (WSU), Hamilton City Hawks Running Club, Momento Café and Good George.
