Rates email error regretted
Palmerston North City Council regrets an email error that affected some residents who had signed up to receive their rates invoices by email rather than post.
Chief financial officer Grant Elliott says an acknowledgement email was accidently emailed to 100 ratepayers at once, while the email did not include rating information it did include the email addresses of ratepayers who have signed up.
“Ratepayers who have signed up gave their private emails to us in confidence and we apologise for what was human error. We did recall the message and we ask those who opened the email to delete it.”
“We have emailed an apology to those ratepayers affected and have initiated a procedural change which will prevent this from occurring in the future.”
Grant Elliott says since the rates online email was launched last year and just over 600 residents have signed up to the new process.
