Get your travel sorted this weekend – possible delays and road closures
Auckland is gearing up for a weekend of major events including the Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines at Eden Park on
Saturday and Sunday, Rapture 2014 – ENINEM at Western Springs on Saturday night and the Lantern Festival at Albert Park
across the weekend.
All three events will mean road closures, diversions, parking restrictions and possible traffic delays.
On both Saturday and Sunday parking restrictions will apply to a large area around Eden Park; access will be maintained
for residents and their visitors. For details see the attached map.
Sandringham Road will be closed from around 6.30 on Saturday and Sunday evenings to allow buses and spectators to clear
the area. It may be closed or restricted at other times.
On Saturday there will be parking and stopping restrictions around Western Springs stadium for the Rapture 2014 concert.
These restrictions will be well-signposted.
Stadium Road will be closed, Great North Road between Motions Road and Surrey Crescent will be reserved for bus parking,
Motions Road from Great North Road to Old Mill Road will be a no stopping zone and there will be some parking
restrictions on Old Mill Road.
Restrictions will also apply in the Albert Park area for the Lantern Festival which opens tonight and runs to Sunday
night.
On Waterloo Quadrant, Brown Avenue and Wellesley Street East there will only be parking for authorised vehicles and
Princess Street will be closed.
Public transport, cycling or walking are the best ways to avoid delays and parking hassles at all these events.
Pre-purchased ticket holders to the league and the concert have the option of travelling on a special event buses or
trains. For the Lantern Festival, scheduled bus services will travel to and from the city, with many services from the
southern, eastern and central suburbs travelling along Symonds Street, a short walk from Albert Park. The Outer LINK
service will travel via central suburbs approximately every 15 minutes to the stops on Wellesley Street, a 5 to 10
minute walk to Albert Park.
Trains and ferries will operate as normal.
If you plan to continue the party in the city on Saturday night, check for an early Sunday morning bus or train service
home.
