Pedal power rewarded at Go by Bike Day Breakfast
Hutt City Council’s Go by Bike Day Breakfast event is back at the Dowse Art Museum from 7-9am on Wednesday 19 February.
There’s a healthy breakfast on offer and plenty of bike safety giveaways for everyone who arrives on their bikes on their way to work or school. It promises to be lots of fun with prizes this year for the most creatively dressed cyclists.
Council’s Road Safety Coordinator Jan Simmons says the event celebrates those who cycle regularly and encourages others to “give it a go.”
“We’ll be sharing safety messages with cyclists about wearing clothing that ensures you’re easily seen, keeping to the road rules, and wearing a helmet. We’ll have puncture repair demonstrations and of course we’re encouraging people to wear their wackiest cycling get-up to win some great prizes.
“Go By Bike Day is also a good reminder to drivers to be considerate when sharing the road with cyclists. Checking carefully for cyclists at intersections and roundabouts, and slowing down when passing cyclists are two simple actions drivers can take to reduce the risk of a crash.”
Go By Bike Day is part of Bike Wise Month.
