If you have ever wanted to volunteer for an emergency service, or help someone after a traumatic event, the Auckland Volunteer and Emergency Services Open Day is for you.
On Saturday (8 February) personnel from the police, fire and ambulance services and agencies such as Lifeline, ACC and Civil Defence, will all be at Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf to show off their skills, equipment, and talk about what they do.
The public will be able check out the full range of New Zealand Fire Service appliances, see what happens inside the Fire and Police Communication Centre and learn how they despatch appliances to emergencies. The Navy also has an open day on its patrol vessel Hawea.
It is the first time in over 25 years that such a large public display of the region’s emergency and volunteer capability has been showcased in central Auckland. Entry is free at it starts at 10am.
