New Look Logo For Auckland Kindergartens
The Auckland Kindergarten Association’s 107 kindergartens are getting a new look logo.
The change is in response to research that revealed only half of surveyed parents knew what modern Auckland kindergartens offer.
The new logo represents a star – with ‘igniting minds’ as the new tagline. This projects the cohesive presence of the association and captures the magic of kindergarten.
Kindergarten Association CEO Tanya Harvey said today (24 January) that each kindergartens would retain their individuality, but there would be greater focus on informing families that their neighbourhood kindergarten was backed by a large, trusted organisation that had been educating children since 1908.
While many Aucklanders were unaware of kindergarten options available, once they became aware they were much more likely to choose kindergarten than any other ECE service, Ms Harvey said.
Many did not know, for example, that the traditional kindergarten half-day session was just one of three options - with ‘school days’ (eg. 9am to 3pm) available in many kindergartens, and all-day care available at four ‘KiNZ’ early learning centres that also operate in kindergarten philosophy of learning through play.
The new choices grew, said Ms Harvey, from an understanding that 21st were struggling to find time for both work and family, and that different families needed different kinds of early childhood education to make their lives easier.
Ms Harvey said all forms of kindergarten offered children ‘a taste of the traditional free-spirited Kiwi childhood we used to enjoy’ - but in a safe environment and guided by qualified teachers.
‘The chance to play, explore and run around outside ‘Kindergarten-style’ was therefore increasingly important.’
Unlike most other forms of childcare, kindergartens were deeply embedded in their individual communities and were both a second home for children and gathering places that brought families together, Ms Harvey said.
With 107 kindergartens and four all-day ‘KiNZ’ early learning centres most Auckland parents had a centre either in their neighbourhood, on the way to work or near their work place.

Every day I Realise how privileged I am to lead an organisation of wonderful dedicated and professional people whose work has such a profound effect on the development of young children. An authentic kindergarten experience is truly a wonderful gift for any child.
We recently conducted extensive research of our brand from which emerged two things – we need to project a more cohesive presence, and our image needs to capture the magic of kindergarten.
So it is with pride that I share with you a new look and feel for AKA’s brand.
A new logo, supported by imaginative imagery, celebrates the energy and creativity we bring to early childhood education. It also gives us a compelling visual platform to express our uniqueness and networked cohesion as a professional teaching organisation. I trust you’ll be as excited about this as we are.
