Applications have been lodged for resource consents to build a new marina at Frankton.
Lakes Marina Projects Ltd (LMPL) proposes to establish a 200-berth marina along with offices, floating sheds and a carpark.
LMPL was named as Queenstown Lakes District Council’s preferred developer for the Frankton site in late 2012. Cr Mel Gazzard, who chairs the Council’s Marina Working Party, said that since then, there has been ongoing consultation with potentially affected parties, involving working party members, Council staff and the company to gain the best outcome for the community. The parties worked closely together to find solutions for issues as they were identified.
“We’ve been through a very long and thorough process to get to this point,” Cr Gazzard said.
The parties have worked together to ensure a safe and secure structure while embracing the lake landscape and a design that minimises the impact on the environment.
