Sand blowing onto Foxton Beach car park keeping contractors busy
Excessive sand blowing over the seawall at Foxton Beach is keeping Horowhenua District Council contractors busy removing
the sand from the car-park.
Council's Contracts Supervisor Mick Longley says the issue is caused by summer winds, and that contractor Fulton Hogan
deserves praise for its work clearing the sand.
He says there have been unusual weather patterns this season, including "strange tides and strong winds".
"In previous years our contractors, Fulton Hogan, have usually removed about 40 cubic metres of sand from the car-park,
but so far this summer they've taken out 200 cubic metres. They've been doing a very good job," he said.
"There's nothing we can do to prevent the sand blowing onto the car-park, but we're well aware of the nuisance it can
cause and we're managing the issue to the best of our ability."
