New Year opportunities at New World Kumeu

Media Release: 23 January, 2014

New Year opportunities at New World Kumeu

New World Kumeu is fast taking shape with the store now recruiting for what is expected to be 100 staff.

Store owner Harry Chawla says the New Year is a common time for people to consider a new job or a career with the retail sector offering great opportunities.

“Supermarkets are dynamic work environments with great career paths. Many staff work their way up to supervisors, managers and ultimately owners, including myself. We’re particularly keen to recruit as many local people as we can. Kumeu is a close-knit supportive community and we’re looking to employ staff who are friendly, like meeting people and helping others.”

New World Kumeu is scheduled to open in April but Mr Chawla says staff will undergo training ahead of opening.

“We’re looking for people to fill full and part-time roles for assistants in our fresh foods departments as well as qualified butchers and meat packers, qualified bakers and general bakery staff as well as checkout operators and Lotto salespeople. We’re also looking for people who are capable of heavy lifting for a range of roles from store room to security. The roles are diverse so we’re hoping we get a good response from the local community to these opportunities.”

Anyone interested in applying for roles at New World Kumeu can do so via the Foodstuffs career website, Trademe or Seek.

The New World supermarket will be approximately 2,800sqm in size, with a modern bright look, easy access and plenty of car parking. A confirmed opening date for New World Kumeu will be announced closer to the time.
