Placemaking Palmerston North – round three registrations now

Placemaking Palmerston North – round three registrations now open

Palmerston North City Council’s third round of placemaking is now open for the City’s residents and retailers to sign up and participate in.

Jennifer Esterman, Council’s policy planner (urban design) says placemaking is a great way for the residents and retailers of Palmerston North to get involved in their community.

“They can make changes to their local spaces in a way they feel best supports the needs of local people,” she said. “The initiative has inspired projects across the city from the Linton community hub’s revitalisation to the vibrancy of George Street and Little Cuba.”

Placemaking teams are encouraged to look at what they have in their area and to utilise that to create a sense of place and activity.

Placemaking teams are provided with a DIY kit free of charge.

Jennifer said the DIY kits are designed to inspire placemakers, help set up a programme of action and provide support as projects are designed and implemented.

The kits were designed by David Engwicht of Creative Communities and contain a narrative, inspiration and tools for placemakers to start implementing their ideas.

Registrations are open from 27 January until 14 February. Forms can be downloaded from pncc.govt.nz by searching ‘placemaking’ or from the Placemaking Palmerston North Facebook page.

This latest round will be launched on Thursday 27 February in the City Library on level 2 from 5.30pm. The event will feature testimonials from previous placemakers to inspire the newest participants.
