Ongoing effort for stranded whales

There are currently 46 pilot whales still alive stranded off Puponga in Golden Bay. Another 3 have now died.

Around 80 volunteers have turned up today to help with the whales and more may be coming. We are very grateful so many people have called wanting to help and have come to assist. We are also very pleased to have had the help of trained Project Jonah volunteers over the weekend and today assisting.

The incoming tide is now starting to come in around the whales so refloating of the whales will be starting. Only people with wetsuits are used to refloat whales as it can be cold being in seawater up to chest height for some time carrying out the refloat procedure.
