Free magazines an early Christmas present from Christchurch City Libraries

The city’s residents are being given an early Christmas present by Christchurch City Libraries – free digital magazine subscriptions, via their new Zinio service, from Monday 23 December.

Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Zinio allows library customers to download the latest editions of more than 200 overseas magazines – from Marie Claire to Rolling Stone, from Ideal Home to National Geographic Interactive and more – to view on their smartphone, tablet or computer from home or anywhere in the world. All that is required is internet access and their library membership details.

Christchurch City Council Libraries and Information Unit Manager Carolyn Robertson says Christmas is the perfect time to unveil Zinio.

“Anyone heading off on holiday is encouraged to give Zinio a try and stock up on some portable reading material – as many titles as you like. It’s free, it’s quick, it’s easy and our friendly library staff are available if you need any additional help setting up.

“Zinio is the latest addition to a suite of digital offerings that have been snowballing in popularity with library customers of late,” Ms Robertson says. “Borrowers are quickly learning that the things they traditionally expect from a library – free loans of books, magazines, music and more – have expanded into the digital sphere. As always, all you need is your card and a password/PIN and you’re ready to go.”

Membership at Christchurch City Libraries is free to Christchurch residents and ratepayers.
