CRC Speedshow’s custom show gets fresh focus; separate classic show to be added

The 2014 edition of CRC Speedshow, New Zealand’s largest and most diverse automotive and motorsport event, will feature a refreshed version of the very successful custom vehicle show run for the first time in 2013. For 2014, a separate show-within-the-show dedicated to classic cars and motorcycles is also being created.

The Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom Show will focus only on custom cars, motorcycles and pickups with CRC Speedshow director Ross Prevette electing to break the classic element out into its own show at the annual automotive extravaganza running 19 to 20 July next year in Auckland.

“We were rapt with the positive feedback from show visitors and entrants last year and it’s really cool that others agreed with us that the idea of mixing Australian muscle cars, hi-tech Jappers, hot rods, pickups and motorcycles together works as a show,” says Prevette. “But it’s fair to say that ‘custom’ and ‘classic’ are two very broad categories and it’s great to take the opportunity to showcase each of them to an even greater extent than we did this year.”

Prevette, who founded the highly-regarded custom motorcycle business Bat Out Of Hell Customz ‘n’ Classics before buying the CRC Speedshow in 2012, says that category winners from the 2013 Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom & Classic Show have automatic right of entry for the 2014 show if they wish.

“We’re all looking forward to seeing a whole new array of Kiwi owners of custom cars, bikes and pickups ready to submit their vehicle for consideration to be shown among the most exceptional custom, hand-built and hand-crafted vehicles in the country. In particular, I’ll be chasing up owners of the coolest custom motorcycles I know of, because there is some outstanding custom fabrication and finishing going on all over New Zealand.”

Prevette adds: “It’s fantastic to again be working with sponsors Castrol EDGE and Teng Tools, and with NZ Rodder and Petrolhead as media partners for the custom show. It was a team effort to create the first show last year and together, we’re sure we can take the Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom Show to another level in 2014.”

Stephen Cole, marketing manager at ISL Industrial, the New Zealand distributors of the Swedish Teng Tools range, says: “We had an absolute blast at the 2013 CRC Speedshow with a massive and very busy Teng Tools showroom in the heart of the Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom & Classic Show. The feedback we received from show patrons was that the variety of custom vehicles on display had huge appeal, so we look forward to talking ‘Teng’ again with the thousands of petrol-heads who enjoy this weekend-long event each July.”

Castrol New Zealand’s Jayne McEwan comments: “The Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom & Classic Show provided us with a fantastic opportunity to speak one-on-one with automotive fans of all ages about their vehicles, so there’s no doubt that the 2014 show will again allow us to enjoy sharing that passion for motor vehicles of all marques and eras.”

In terms of the new classic show, Prevette says: “Given the number of pristine classic cars and bikes faithfully restored around New Zealand, we believe there will be plenty of support from vehicle owners and enthusiasts to see New Zealand’s best classic cars, bikes and trucks featured in their own show. We’ll be expanding CRC Speedshow’s footprint into the Logan Campbell Centre to accommodate the line-up of classic vehicles and expect to soon confirm a sponsor.”

Information regarding expressions of interest for entry into both shows will be available early in January and potential entrants are welcome to make contact with show co-ordinator Kate Gordon-Smith via the CRC Speedshow website,www.speedshow.co.nz.

The CRC Speedshow runs at the ASB Showgrounds, Auckland over the weekend of 19 and 20 July 2014 with four display halls, hundreds of vehicles on display, opportunities to meet racing stars and to enjoy top-class entertainment in the Ideal Wheels live action arena. Follow CRC Speedshow on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Speedshow), Facebook (www.Facebook.com/speedshownz) and Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/speedshow/).
