Key decisions from today’s Council meeting
Christchurch City Council met today and the following key decisions were made:

Ferry Road Master Plan
The Council has
adopted a plan to support the recovery of the Ferry Road
corridor from Fitzgerald Avenue to Ferrymead Bridge. The
Ferry Road Master Plan is part of the Suburban Centres
Programme, which provides coordinated support for the
recovery and rebuild of commercial centres damaged in the
Canterbury earthquakes. Adoption of the plan means work can
begin on Council-led actions that have funding approved such
as streetscape improvements in Woolston.
• Riccarton Bus Hub proposal
The
Council voted against locating the Riccarton Bus Interchange
Hub at 119 Riccarton Road. The Council asked staff to
provide a report on other options for the passenger waiting
lounge and bus stop. The Council has also asked for a
workshop to be held in early 2014 that will be attended by
the Council, ECAN and CERA to look at the whole public
transport network.

Residential Advisory Service
The Council
decided that to enable consideration an imminent a Deloitte
review of the service and a desire to know who is being
helped, in what way and where the blocks were, consideration
of the report would be deferred to the Council meeting on 30
January 2014.
• Hagley Oval Environment
Court costs
The Council approved a
recommendation for officers to seek to recover costs from
Canterbury Cricket, for all costs incurred from the resource
consent application to the Environment Court to develop the
Hagley Park Oval into a first-class cricket venue in time
for the Cricket World Cup in 2015.
• Earthquake Remembrance markers at sensitive sites
The Council gave its approval for temporary remembrance markers to be placed on Council-owned or administered public land, until such time as the adjacent site had been developed or the Canterbury Earthquake Memorial is established. Immediate family members wanting to put a sign in place need to approach the Council for approval, and signs will be subject to design and location principles.
• Gaiety Hall
Akaroa
The Council has given its support in
principle for the permanent repair of the Gaiety Hall
subject to a full report to the next Council meeting for
final approval.
• Infrastructure
Rebuild Programme funding
The Council has
approved a request from the Stronger
Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT) to receive
further allocation of funds from the Council
Infrastructure/Building Improvement Allowance for a number
of projects that will further enhance and strengthen the
pipelines through out the city.
• Social
housing
The Council received an update on the
Rebuild and Partnerships Programme, which focuses on 17
high-priority social housing complexes identified from the
Council’s City Housing portfolio. The Council requested
reports for the redevelopment of the Willard Street and
Brougham Village complexes be presented to the Housing
Committee in February 2014. The Council also requested
feasibility studies for three other high-priority complexes,
Carey Street, Coles Place and Cresselly Place, be completed
by March 2014.
