The Warbirds Over Wanaka Community Trust has a new Chairman and some fresh faces around the board table.
Wanaka businessman and Community Board member, Ross McRobie has taken over as Chairman of the board which oversees the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow.
Board member Garth Hogan stepped down from the board in September while two other trustees, Murray Cleverley and Bill Gordon, are leaving the board at the next airshow. Bill and Garth have been involved with Warbirds Over Wanaka since the very first airshow 25 years ago.
Three new trustees have now joined the board. Nelson-based Robyn Reid owns an aviation company with her husband and has extensive experience in aviation regulations.
Also new is Auckland businessman Brett Nicholls. Brett is a member of the New Zealand Warbirds Association executive and owns a number of aircraft including a Strikemaster Jet.
The third new trustee is Wanaka-based director John Gilks. John has been passionate about the Warbirds Over Wanaka Airshow for many years. He is also currently chairman of the Queenstown Airport Company.
The other trustees are Otago Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive, John Christie and Galloway, Cook, Allan partner, Stephen Grant.
Chairman Ross McRobie has taken the opportunity to thank Garth Hogan, Bill Gordon and Murray Cleverley for their contribution to the Trust and the airshow over many years.
“These three gentlemen have given thousands of hours of their time over the years. They are a great example of people giving back to their community. Through their efforts, and the efforts of many other volunteers, this airshow has directly given back tens of thousands of dollars to local groups and indirectly tens of millions to the regional economy,” says Ross.
Ross is confident the new trustees will have a lot to contribute to the Trust.
“Robyn and Brett have great aviation and airshow experience and John brings a wealth of governance and sound business knowledge. I think we’ve got the perfect board to take us into the future.”
