Council adopts Ferry Road Master Plan
Council adopts Ferry Road Master Plan
Christchurch City Council has adopted a plan to support the recovery of the Ferry Road corridor from Fitzgerald Street to Ferrymead Bridge.
The Ferry Road Master Plan is part of the Council’s Suburban Centres Programme, which provides coordinated support for the recovery and rebuild of commercial centres damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes.
”The adoption of the Ferry Road Master Plan represents a significant milestone for the local community, property and business owners and others involved in its development”, says Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board Chairperson Sara Templeton.
“Now the plan has been adopted, work can commence on implementing the Council-led actions that have funding (such as streetscape improvements in Woolston), as well as pursuing funding for the remaining master plan actions.”
The Ferry Road Master Plan reflects the local community’s desire to build on the area’s rich history and natural environment to create distinctive destinations that maximise their connections to the river, coast and hills, says the Council’s Urban Design and Regeneration Unit Manager, Carolyn Ingles.
“The Plan ensures the area’s diversity and heritage will be reflected and celebrated in the design of the centres and corridor, creating vibrant, welcoming shopping destinations that are resilient and more sustainable.”
Staff will hold a further workshop with Foodstuffs to discuss proposals for the supermarket site in Woolston.
The Ferry Road Master Plan provides a vision, framework and action plan to guide the recovery and future development of the Ferry Road corridor from Fitzgerald Street to Ferrymead Bridge. It will sit alongside the Sumner Village Centre Master Plan (adopted) and the Main Road Master Plan (in development) to provide a cohesive response to the recovery of this important corridor linking the city, the Port of Lyttelton and the seaside suburbs.
