The Medical Council of New Zealand office has been closed with immediate effect
The Medical Council office has been closed with immediate effect because the building it occupies does not meet
earthquake building codes.
After the Seddon/Wellington earthquakes in July and August this year, the Council understood that the building was 70
percent compliant. Yesterday afternoon, the Council was advised that following a full engineering report the building
was just 40 percent compliant.
The safety and well being of staff is Council’s primary concern and for this reason the decision has been taken to close
the office with immediate effect.
Council staff are currently working to minimise disruption to core services such as health, registration and
professional standards between now and Monday, 6 January 2014 by establishing temporary workplaces or enabling staff to
work from home.
We would ask for your understanding and patience in the coming weeks while we reestablish our office elsewhere in
Wellington.
