New Year priority to “make things happen”

New Year priority to “make things happen”

At a full Council meeting last night a budget variation of $200,000 was approved to redevelop the Taita Netball Courts.

The proposed improvements were deemed urgent because the upcoming construction of the Taita Sport & Community Centre would reduce the number of courts available and the ones left were poor quality. The improvements can be completed before the start of the 2014 season.

Mayor Wallace said, “It is important now that we look at making long-term investments in key community projects.

“The work on the Taita Netball Courts was particularly urgent so that Hutt Valley Netball could continue to accommodate current teams and support the growth of the sport in the future.”

While Council has sought to prioritise debt repayment in recent years, from 2014 there will be scope to look differently at how, when and why Council spends money for the long-term benefit of the community.
