Kiwis Asked to Help Stop Factory Farming
Caring Kiwis are asked to join a star-studded array of New Zealanders including actor Robyn Malcolm, presenter Kevin
Milne, hip hop artist Ladi6 and popular TV personalities Jono and Ben this week, in speaking out against factory farming
and raising much needed funds for animals during SAFE’s annual appeal.
The stars feature in a recently launched television advertising campaign against the cruelty of factory farming. The
advertisement aims to create awareness and help put a stop to the cruelty. Kiwis all over the country can also play a
part in addressing what SAFE says is this country’s number one animal welfare issue by donating during the street
appeal.
Jared Turner from The Almighty Johnsons, who features in the advertisement, says that as the leading organisation
speaking out for all factory-farmed animals, SAFE’s work is essential.
“Chickens, pigs, and others in intensive farming systems suffer every day of their lives – over 100 million of them per
year. But we can make a difference. Please get behind SAFE and help us stop the cruelty of factory farming. Look out for
me collecting in Auckland!” says Jared.
SAFE Executive Director Hans Kriek says, “Our work is entirely funded by donations provided by the public and we receive
no government funding.”
“We need more public awareness of the issues animals are facing. So we are asking everyone to give generously and help
us raise vital funds to stop cruelty to animals in New Zealand.”
SAFE will hold its national annual street appeal this Friday and Saturday (20/21 December). Over 1500 caring Kiwis in 47
cities and towns will don brightly coloured animal costumes to collect donations from the public. Money raised will be
used to fund campaign initiatives and humane education projects in 2014.
