One million dollars to grow future exhibitions
Following approval from Auckland Councillors today, Regional Facilities Auckland announced it has established a working development fund of $1m to allow Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki to develop and present major exhibitions in the future.
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki Director, Rhana Devenport, says the new working capital fund provides the Gallery with the ability to develop and plan imaginative exhibitions of excellence for the people of Auckland and beyond.
‘The exhibition history at the Gallery is an auspicious one and this new resource allows us to build on this record to conceive and present exceptional exhibitions of international and New Zealand art.
‘It allows the Gallery to foster long-term partnerships with leading museums worldwide to develop innovative exhibitions that deliver memorable experiences for our audiences.’
Regional Facilities Auckland Chief Executive, Robert Domm, says previously the Gallery was required to fund research and development for future major exhibitions from within tight operating budgets.
‘We know Auckland Art Gallery is extremely capable of presenting significant touring exhibitions such as Degas to Dalífrom the National Galleries of Scotland, Who Shot Rock & Roll from Brooklyn Museum, and most recently California Design from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
‘This new funding frees the Gallery to continue to expand its successful presentation of outstanding international exhibitions in the World Building of the Year.
‘We look forward to the benefits this initiative will deliver for Aucklanders and further establishing the Gallery as a national and international destination.’
