Helping to Keep Dunedin Looking Beautiful

Helping to Keep Dunedin Looking Beautiful

Dunedin (Thursday, 5 December 2013) – Keep Dunedin Beautiful certainly found some hidden gems when judging the city’s most beautiful accommodation roviders.

Keep Dunedin Beautiful Co-ordinator Darlene Thomson says the task was so difficult that as well as the two supreme winners, three excellence awards are also being awarded.

The accommodation providers were judged on their exterior, both on structural surfaces and outdoor gardens, as well as recycling facilities and litter-free locations.

The winner of category A (motels, hotels and apartments) is the Hereweka Garden
Retreat at Hooper’s Inlet. One of the judges, Janine Hunt-Ross from the Dunedin City Council, says, “The cottage garden made up of native plants and colourful flowers helped give this retreat a real wow factor!”

The winner of Category B (tourist parks, B & Bs, backpackers and hosted houses) is the Dunedin Holiday Park on Victoria Road. Keep Dunedin Beautiful Chair Jan Tucker says, “Every Dunedin resident should see this magnificent campground resplendent in hundreds of murals depicting Otago attractions. I can’t believe that I have lived in Dunedin this long and never knew what a fabulous place we had on our doorstep.”

The Certificate of Excellence winners are Milton House B & B, Silver Peaks Lodge and Leith Tourist Park.

Presentation of winners’ plaques will take place today - at Hereweka at 11.30am and at the Dunedin Holiday Park at 12.30pm.
