Have your say on local water management
The Upper Waitaki Zone Committee is hosting a public meeting on 19 December to talk with local people about the process they are leading to develop catchment-specific water quality limits.
The committee is testing various scenarios to help it explore the consequences of land-use changes and develop water management solutions to deliver the community’s aspirations for water.
The committee has identified a set of outcomes that it is seeking to achieve, which are influenced by, or influence, water quality. These are based on its Zone Implementation Programme (ZIP) for water management, and they will be used to ‘test’ various scenarios to set the scene for community discussions and zone committee recommendations.
Once developed, these solutions will be reflected in the Waitaki sub-regional section of the proposed Land & Water Regional Plan (pLWRP).
Community feedback at the public meeting
will help the committee refine the scenarios it will test as
part of this process, ensure they are realistic, and any
assumptions made ring true with the community.
At the meeting community members can find out what water quality limits are all about and how they can be involved in their development.
