MEDIA RELEASE
FAILURES OF AUDIT NZ PLAIN TO SEE IN KAIPARA REPORT
3 DECEMBER 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to the Controller and Auditor General’s Inquiry into the Mangawhai community wastewater scheme, released this afternoon, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union said:
“The report is extraordinary in its identification of the failures within the Auditor General’s own office, and those overseeing local government. The review acknowledges that Audit NZ dropped the ball, and made basic mistakes.”
“This office is supposed to give assurance that government departments are performing. The report suggests Audit NZ was failing ‘audit 101’.”
“The only positive to draw from the report is that it may help Kaipara residents to seek damages from Audit NZ or its insurers.”
