New event helps families into high country fishing
A new Fish & Game event offers families the opportunity to have a high country fishing experience close to Christchurch. The family fishing day will be held from 9am until 3pm on Sunday the 8th of December at Lake Lyndon. This lake is located at the top of Porters Pass (SH73) just over an hours drive from the city.
Fish & Game will be releasing fish into the lake on the day and experienced anglers will be on site to provide tuition.
Fish & Game Officer Emily Moore says the event was created to give children an experience of high country fishing in a supportive environment. “It’s a nice progression from the Take A Kid Fishing Trust’s day at the Groynes lakes and gives kids a feel for high country fishing with help at hand,” says Mrs Moore.
A weigh-in station and free sausage sizzle will be located at the Fish & Game tent situated outside the lodge at the southern end of the lake.
Fish & Game want to remind families to make sure they buy their family and junior licences prior to the day, either in-store or online at http://www.fishandgame.org.nz/content/fishing-licence-info. Children under 12 years of age can be issued with their free licence on the day. The day will be held wet or fine.
