Food, wine and entertainment ‘teed up’ for next year’s New Zealand Open in Queenstown
Work on next year’s New Zealand Open in Queenstown continues apace with the very best entertainment options laid on for tournament-goers.
The 2014 New Zealand Open tournament will be held at The Hills and Millbrook Resort Golf Clubs in Queenstown from February 27 to March 2 next year.
While the tournament and its top-name players will attract golf lovers from all around the country, the entertainment element and particularly the concept of the popular ‘The 19th’ is guaranteed to prove a drawcard for many others.
The 19th exhibitors already confirmed so far include Devil Burger, Suma Sushi, Patagonia Ice Cream, Francesca's Pizza, Mantra Indian restaurant, Michael Hill Jewellers, FL Bone and The Better Back Company.
Operating for all four days of the tournament, The 19th at The Hills is fast becoming a ‘must-attend’ destination on the local summer calendar in its own right.
“The combination of beautiful late summer weather, a stunning location, great sporting action, the opportunity to wander the course and admire Sir Michael Hill’s amazing sculpture collection, The 19th, music, food and wine is a sure-fire winner,” said NZ Open tournament director Michael Glading.
“It’s a hugely attractive few days out for visitors or locals who don’t necessarily watch or participate in golf.
“Building on previous events our aim is to see the Open feature among the very best all-day sporting events, and the best of the region’s food and wine festivals over summer.”
Potential exhibitors are still welcome to approach organisers to find out how they could be involved in The 19th and opportunities for their business, while details of a concert to be held on the Saturday evening of the tournament (March 1) will be announced soon.
For those looking for corporate hosting opportunities, premium hospitality area The Wolves Bar will be perched above the 14th hole at The Hills, alongside the magnificent ‘The Wolves Are Coming’ sculpture by artist Liu Ruowang.
The stunning Chinese artwork, unveiled last year for the first time, features over 100 large wolves complete with a three-metre-high warrior.
The Wolves Bar will offer a VIP experience where guests can enjoy all-inclusive sumptuous gourmet food, wine and Moa beer while overlooking the action on the course.
Limited Wolves Bar tickets are available for Saturday March 1 and Sunday March 2 and also include daily entry to the golf and VIP car parking.
The Wolves Bar will open daily from 10.30am to 6pm. The daily ticket price is $249 all inclusive and tickets are available now through Ticketek at www.ticketek.co.nz.
Returning to Queenstown next year, the 2014 New Zealand Open will be played in a Pro-Am format incorporating 132 professional players and 132 amateur players over the first two days.
Tournament organisers are expecting around 20,000 spectators to watch the event in Queenstown and golf fans are being urged to get in early to book their trip.
Those who get in quick will have the chance to win an epic early-bird prize that is a once in a lifetime golfing experience.
Everyone who purchases tickets before December 22 will go into the draw to play The Hills with leading Kiwi golfer and two-time New Zealand PGA Champion Michael Hendry and All Black great Justin Marshall in the weeks ahead of the tournament.
