Countdown to Festival For the Future
Wellington, November 18th – This Friday will see the launch of the third annual Festival for the Future at Te Papa. 350 young future thinkers from around New Zealand will descend upon Wellington for a weekend packed with inspiring and innovative speakers, workshops, performances, project development and exhibitions.
The festival is a unique experience that aims to celebrate what's possible and support the next generation to spark and grow ideas for a better world.
Contributors come from a wide range of disciplines to share their passion, projects and vision for New Zealand.
They include Dr Sean Simpson whose company LanzaTech turns waste gases into bio fuels. Tia Johnston Brown who is arriving from New York to talk about her work with youth enterprise through the Ashoka Foundation. Cam Calkoen has a great story about how he overcame extreme adversity. And the Festival’s youngest contributor 14 year old Hana Olds is passionate about human rights and was a published author at age 12.
Festival Founder & Director, Guy Ryan said that there is a huge buzz surrounding the Festival. “Magic happens when you get passionate people from a huge range of backgrounds in the same room. This year the line up is amazing, and we’re expecting all kinds of great ideas, projects and partnerships to flow from the weekend.” The Festival has awarded 50 scholarships to young people around the country who wouldn’t have otherwise been able to attend. Recipient India Logan-Riley, 19, from Hastings, said she was most looking forward to attending the workshop section of the festival programme “to develop some skills in bringing ideas to life and creating a vision that everyone wants to have a part in”.
The Festival for the Future is on from the 22nd to 24th November at Te Papa. Tickets and a full programme are available from the website. Tickets will be available until the 20th November: www.festivalforthefuture.org.nz
