Ruapehu District Council (RDC) has had another impounded horse broken out of its pound in Taumarunui over the weekend.
RDC Team Leader Compliance, Brenda Ralph, said that the tai or siebay stallion was taken from the pound sometime over Saturday night.
“Unfortunately the extra security precautions we had put in after the last breakout in September didn’t prevent this horse from being stolen, she said.
“If someone is determined to get an animal out and break whatever they need to there is little council can do to stop them.”
Mrs Ralph added that the Police had been informed and will be making enquires along with council staff who will be on the look-out for the horse.
“This horse is quite distinctive as it has series of lumpy growths around its left eye,” she said.
“When stolen it was also wearing one of council’s red halters as per the photo.”
Mrs Ralph noted that the horse was impounded from Taumarunui hospital property where it had been left without permission.
“Council had earlier requested the owner to home it in a suitable rural area,” she said.
