Job vacancies increase for the second month in a row
Online job vacancies have increased for two consecutive months, according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s latest Jobs Online report.
The latest seasonally adjusted results show that online advertisements for all workers rose by 3.2 per cent and advertisements for skilled workers rose by 1.1 per cent in October. The construction and engineering industry experienced the biggest increase (up 4.6 per cent), followed by the information technology industry (up 4 per cent). The biggest fall was in the healthcare and medical industry (down 3.7 per cent).
By region, the biggest increases were in skilled worker vacancies were in Auckland and Canterbury (up by 2.9 and 2.8 per cent) regions. The biggest fall in skilled vacancies was in the North Island (excluding Auckland and Wellington), down 0.9 per cent from the previous month.
Over the year to October, skilled and all vacancies both increased by 7.6 per cent and 12.6 per cent, respectively. “We are seeing a steady growth in advertised job vacancies. The growth in skilled vacancies is being driven by Auckland and Canterbury” said MBIE’s manager of Labour Market and Business Performance, David Paterson.
