Locations sought for clean fill disposal
11 November 2013
October’s run of dry weather had at least
one advantage: clay capping of the former Pohe Island
Landfill progressed quickly because of the fine weather.
This is a milestone for one of the largest new parks
being developed in an urban area in New Zealand.
Progress on the clay capping has brought the old land fill to the point where no more fill of any sort can be accepted there any more.
“We are seeking information from any companies or individuals that are in a position to accept clean fill. If they forward their details to our call centre (430 4200) we are happy to pass them on,” said WDC Solid Waste Manager John Langsford.
“The landfill was closed to all but clean fill in 2005, but now we have filled all we need to and no waste products are accepted there any more.”
Mr Langsford said larger contractors have access to their own disposal sites, but there are few options generally known for small loads. In the meantime, the ReSort at Kioreroa Rd does accept clean fill for a fee.
