Detectives from the Organised & Financial Crime Agency New Zealand (OFCANZ), yesterday seized six firearms, ammunition and a late model Holden utility following the successful execution of a search warrant at an Onehunga based storage facility.
The OFCANZ Motorcycle Gang Unit located two shot guns, two military style assault rifles, a silenced rifle, a handgun and thousands of rounds of ammunition of the same calibre as the assault rifles. A 2008 Holden Commodore SSV utility motor vehicle was also seized pursuant to an asset seizure order.
Details of the firearms seized:
• Mossberg pump action pistol grip
• Beretta 12 gauge semi automatic shot gun
• Norinco 7.62mm AK47 assault rifle
• 7.62mm homemade fully chromed semi automatic assault rifle with a pistol grip.
• Walther G22 .22 calibre rifle fitted with a silencer
• .22 calibre hand gun
• Thousands of rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
Detective Senior Sergeant Lloyd SCHMID of OFCANZ said ‘the storage unit was searched as part of an on-going investigation into a Hells Angel Outlaw Motorcycle Gang associate. Following forensic examination of the storage unit and its contents further charges are likely’.
‘This current seizure of firearms and ammunition follows valuable assistance that OFCANZ received from members of the public and we thank them for their assistance. The presence of these firearms in the community is alarming and we continue to encourage the public to assist Police by sharing information that they may have as we pursue positive avenues of enquiry’
‘The public can be reassured that any information received is treated on a confidential basis, will be followed up and where there is evidence of criminality, those involved will be held accountable.’
