Horizons welcome two new committee chairs

At today’s council meeting, Horizons’ councilors appointed committee chairs and decided on the make up of each committee.

Two new committee chairs were elected unopposed with Colleen Sheldon taking on the role of environment committee chair and new councilor Rachel Keedwell appointed as the chair of the passenger transport committee.

Incumbent Murray Guy returns as chair of the catchment operations committee, Paul Rieger remains chair of audit and risk and council chair Bruce Gordon will continue his roles as chairs of the regional transport and strategy and policy committees.

Horizons chairman Bruce Gordon is pleased with the make up of each committee and welcomes the new committee chairs to the fold.

“I have met with each of our council representatives and feel confident that each individual has been appointed to areas they are interested and passionate about.”

“Each committee chair brings to the table knowledge and experience and I expect they will provide leadership and guidance for their respective committees over the coming term,” he said.

New environment committee chair, Colleen Sheldon is looking forward to building strong relationships within the committee and the wider community to allow a better understanding for a sustainable future.

“We wish to ensure social, economic and environmental viability for all of our communities.”

Meanwhile passenger transport committee chair Rachel Keedwell is looking forward to working with other councils in the Region to determine what transport systems work best for our communities.

“My initial focus will be on consultation for the current transport review process which is being carried out in Palmerston North to ensure transport best meets the needs of the people.”

At today’s meeting, remuneration for members was also discussed. Some minor changes around the redistribution of the current allocation have been put forward to the remuneration authority for feedback.
