Arts Trail huge success
Arts Trail huge success
The sun shone and people
turned out in force to make the Arts Trail a huge success
over the weekend.
“There was a festive air about the Trail, a sense of real excitement and people definitely had their wish list of things to see,” said Event Coordinator Margaret Sweetman.
“We were blessed by really good weather but it’s clear the Arts Trail now has a special place in peoples’ annual list of things to do.”
Survey forms are still being processed but Margaret says it’s clear the numbers on the Trail this year were up on previous years. “The Whitireia Polytechnic site and the Council halls at Raumati South and Waikanae Beach were very busy both days and there was a steady stream of visitors through the studios. Sales appear to have been very good.”
One artist from Raumati Beach said she had sold 15 of her 20 original paintings and that she was extremely pleased.
Almost 300 artists took part in the Trail which ran from Paekākāriki in the south to Ōtaki in the north and included 64 studios, the Whitireia Campus, two Council halls and 16 self managed hubs.
Margaret said the bulk of visitors came from the district but a large number were from Wellington and the Hutt Valley. Some even came down from Auckland and “made a weekend of it”.
The annual event is organised by the Kāpiti Coast District Council.
