Riverbank Carpark and Block Road to remain closed
overnight
With Hutt River levels still high and heavy rain forecast for this afternoon and evening the Riverbank Carpark and Block Road will remain closed overnight.
Harcourt Werry Drive is now open but if weather conditions deteriorate as predicted, it may need to be re-closed.
Heavy rain is expected to arrive late this afternoon and continue throughout the evening.
Motorists are asked to take care on the roads tonight and be patient with their fellow drivers as the closure of Block Road may cause delays.
All cars left in Riverbank Carpark when it was closed earlier today have been moved to the top of the stopbank for safety.
Riverbank Carpark users who moved their own cars can park anywhere in the CBD today as long as they display their Riverbank Carpark ticket, we ask them to please avoid short-term parking spaces such as P15, P10 and P5.
A decision on whether the Riverbank Carpark and Block Road can be reopened will be made before 6am tomorrow morning and posted on council’s website and Facebook page. We ask motorists to also tune in to their local radio station.
