‘New Legacy Award delights judges at the 2013 Marlborough Wine Show’

Judging for the 2013 Marlborough Wine Show took place last week with 530 wines from across the region poured for three judging panels. The largest class was Sauvignon Blanc which was unsurprisingly dominated by the 2013 vintage, of which just over 8% gained gold medals.

However it was the inaugural Legacy class that created the most excitement. Chief Judge, Jeff Clark explains, “This class allowed producers to enter three wines of one varietal across a number of vintages. The entries amply demonstrated the superb quality Marlborough has been producing over the years, along with continued stylistic improvement, the benefit of maturing vines and not least, how the wines beneficially mature with time in bottle”. He continues, “This class was a delight to judge and we thank all the entrants for giving us this opportunity to participate in a time capsule of Marlborough winemaking at its best.”

The Marlborough Museum Legacy Award will be announced at the Celebration Dinner being held on 9 November 2013 at the Marlborough Convention Centre. Also being announced is the first Marlborough Wine Show Award for Vineyard Excellence as well as trophies for the varietal classes.
