Emergency Support team looking for new members
If you’re interested in high angle rope rescue, flood and storm response and swift water rescue this may interest you. Palmerston North Rescue Emergency Support Team (REST) is looking to recruit new members.
The team is made up of volunteers and operates under the supervision of Palmerston North City Council’s Emergency Management Team.
Emergency management officer Graeme McIntyre says Palmerston North’s team is recognised as one of the best in the country and have collected numerous awards.
“Our main role is to support emergency rescue services locally, within the Manawatū and when we’re called upon, nationally. Applicants need to be committed and dedicated, be able to provide rescue support for at least 80 hours per year and available to train weekly and often on weekends too.
Applicants will also be required to complete NZQA National Certificates, Tertiary Certificates and up to five industry certificates in Rescue.
REST will hold an open night on 3 December 2013 at 7pm (meet on the steps in front of the Council Administration Building), where you can ask questions and submit your application forms. All interested persons are welcome.
Download an application form pncc.govt.nz or pick them up at the open night. Applications close on 16th December 2013.
Graeme McIntyre says there is a rigorous selection process. Applications are assessed and applicants interviewed. Those who make it through the interview process will then need to attend a training camp on the 15-16 February 2013 and following that weekend successful candidates will be announced.
