Competition celebrates opening of the high country lakes to fishing
November 2nd not only hails the opening of the high country lakes to fishing but also the Coleridge Fishing Competition.
This free competition has over $10,000 worth of prizes donated by Hunting & Fishing and is a highlight of the year for many high country anglers.
Organiser Steve Terry of Fish & Game said many people thought you had to catch a fish to enter the competition, but that it was open to anyone who
presented a current fishing licence on the day. He said he knew of few fishing competitions with free entry and such a
large prize pool.
“The focus of the competition is participation and every angler who shows a licence is given a ticket for the spot prize
draw. Anglers who present fish are given extra tickets giving them a better chance in the draw. There are also prizes
for the heaviest fish for each species,” said Mr Terry. The prizes are donated by Hunting & Fishing.
Lake Coleridge is one of the few lakes that is heavily stocked with Chinook salmon and also one of the few lakes that
you can catch salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout all in the one day. The competition also includes the smaller
Coleridge lakes, such as Selfe and Georgina.
The Ryton Bay weigh station will be open from 8.30 am until 3pm Saturday. A BBQ will be serving up sizzlers during the
day and the prize draw will be held at 4pm.
