Be considerate of your community - don’t dump your rubbish!
Waikato District Council is urging residents participating in next month’s inorganic refuse collection to be considerate of their community.
Throughout November, Council offers inorganic refuse collections in selected parts of the district so households that receive kerbside refuse collection can also dispose of a limited amount of items without additional charge.
However, General Manager Service Delivery Tim Harty says in past years, some communities have abused the collection by either dumping too much rubbish on their kerb - or even worse, on their neighbour’s - or placing items out too early.
He says this is disrespectful to the community and creates an eyesore.
“The inorganic refuse collection is a privilege for parts of the district and some residents take advantage of the collection without consideration to their community. They use it as an opportunity to dump rubbish they’ve been collecting for months or as a storage space by placing it out on the kerb weeks before they should.”
He says the collection has been available for a number of years in Waikato district and residents should be aware of the restrictions.
“The weekend before your collection, you can put a pile of inorganic material no more than two metres long by one metre wide and one metre high on the kerb. Anything over this will be left behind.”
He says Council will take further action if refuse is left on the kerb either too early or left out after the collection week or placed on the kerb too early but would prefer that the simple rules outlined are followed.
