Stephen Berry Says “Thanks Auckland!”
Affordable Auckland Mayoral candidate Stephen Berry today thanked Auckland for the significant support he had enjoyed in
the recent local body elections. Berry achieved 13539 votes coming third out of a field of 17 with approximately 4% of
the vote.
“I am tremendously grateful for the support I have received from a significant portion of Auckland voters and our
fantastic team of volunteers. This result shows that there is a growing desire from ratepayers and voters alike for a
council that taxes less, spends less and borrows less.”
“There is a sizeable community that believes in the importance private property rights and realises that the abuse of
those rights is fuelling the Auckland housing bubble. My hope is that the Council will decrease its involvement in the
housing market so mortgage holders don’t have to experience the pain of that bubble bursting prior to 2016.”
Throughout this campaign Mr. Berry has received far less media coverage than some of the anointed leaders of the race
which makes this vote even more significant. “While most other candidates were proposing varying degrees of higher rates
and spending, the message of a less active council was flying under the radar but the media won’t be able to ignore it
now!”
When asked about his intentions for the general election next year Stephen is currently non-committal. “I’m going to be
talking to various groups and individuals over the next few weeks before I make any decision about the general elections
in twelve months. There are plenty of options on the table and I need to take a little bit of time to consider them.”
“As for Affordable Auckland, I’m absolutely stoked about what our small team has managed to achieve since forming the
party a few short months ago. All our candidates have achieved very credible results and I’m extremely proud of that.”
“What I can guarantee is Affordable Auckland will be a constant presence throughout the next three year Council term and
we will be back, bigger than ever, in the 2016 elections!”
