Weather clears to allow power restoration

Media statement – for immediate release

6.50am, Tuesday 15 October 2013

Weather clears to allow power restoration

Less than 200 customers remain without power this morning in the Orion network area.

“We managed to restore power to near 1,000 customers yesterday afternoon and evening, after our efforts earlier in the day were hampered by the risk of lightning strikes. When late yesterday the risk of lightening hitting our crews passed, we were quickly into full repair mode and daylight saving gave us a bit more time to complete repairs. We had 1,100 customers without power at 4pm yesterday, but we managed to get this down to less than 200 customers by nightfall,” says Orion Operations Manager Stu Kilduff.

“Weather permitting, and assuming no further outages, we expect that power will be restored to all customers today,” continues Mr Kilduff.

If you see a fallen power line, or a tree on a power line, please stay well clear and call us immediately on 0800 363 9898.
