Central

Two 18-year-old New Plymouth men have been arrested and charged with the rape of a 17-year-old woman that occurred on Friday 11 October, 2013.

Both men are facing charges of rape of a female over 16 years of age, unlawful sexual connection, and indecent assault. One of the men is also charged with making an intimate visual recording of the incident.

A third 18-year-old New Plymouth man has also been charged with making an intimate visual recording in relation to this incident.

Central District Manager - Criminal Investigations, Detective Inspector Chris Bensemann says: "The woman and men were at a small social gathering on the Friday night when the incident has taken place. She has then made a complaint to Police and we have launched an investigation."

"We have spoken to a number of people and we are not looking for anyone else in relation this incident."

The men charged with rape and other offences have both appeared before the New Plymouth District Court this afternoon and have been released on strict bail conditions. The man charged with making an intimate visual recording will appear in Court later this week.

Police have no further comment to make at this time.
