Heavy rain keeps State Highway 6 closed today

Heavy rain continuing to fall in Westland is bringing more rock and gravel down on to State Highway 6, between Haast and Makarora, keeping the highway closed today.

"The slip face is again moving and more material is falling on to the highway at the Diana Falls slip, making it too dangerous for motorists to travel through the area," says the NZ Transport Agency's Performance Manager Pete Connors.

The highway closed at 12.30pm yesterday.

"We will review the situation again at 9am tomorrow (Sunday)," he says.

Mr Connors says the rain is forecast to keep falling today and into tomorrow.
