Frozen Fun Zone Skates into The Palms for School Holidays
Spring may have sprung, but The Palms, in conjunction with More FM, is reviving a winter-favourite pastime these school holidays by turning part of the carpark into an ice rink.
During the two-week school holiday period, (28 September to 13 October), The Palms will be home to the More FM Frozen Fun Zone. Offering one of the biggest outdoor ice rinks Christchurch has seen, the 450sq.metre ice rink will be installed in the first covered carpark near the Arena carpark area.
For those who haven’t quite mastered the besti squat or axel jump, or are simply a bit wobbly on ice-skates, there will be plenty of seating at the sidelines to cheer on friends and family.
Activities will be aplenty on the ice, with two World Series winning Black Sox, Daniel Milne and Tyron Bartorillo attending the rink’s opening day on Saturday 28th September. Sunday 6 October will see a thrilling ice hockey demonstration from Aardwolfs Ice Hockey team from 12pm to 12.30pm. Shoppers and skaters will also have the chance to win great prizes including gift baskets from centre retailers and vouchers, while honing their skating skills.
Simon Carter, Centre Manager at The Palms, is looking forward to seeing local kids and adults alike enjoy an activity never before seen at The Palms.
“We know entertaining the kids during the school holidays can be a challenge, so we decided to offer something a little different that the whole family can enjoy together. There is a lot going on at the centre these school holidays and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of ice skating talent that I know is alive and well in Christchurch.”
This unique event calls for all pro and novice ice skaters to don a pair of skates and showcase their talent or learn in a fun environment. For a spin on the More FM Frozen Fun Zone, tickets for children are $15, $20 for adults and will be available to purchase online or directly at the Frozen Fun Zone ticket booth.
The More FM Frozen Fun Zone will be open from 10:00am to 10:00pm everyday throughout the holiday period, providing entertainment for the whole family well into the evenings and in the weekends.
Amongst the competitions on ice will be a ‘craziest hair’ and ‘most colourful hair’ contest, a ‘Subway surprise’, ‘speed skating Sundays’ and ‘funky fashion Friday’s’. Visit www.thepalms.co.nz for more details.
