Colours Bloom at the Botanic Gardens with Baby Buggies & Balloons!
The colours come out as the spring flowers bloom and the baby buggies wheel their way through the Wellington Botanic Gardens on Thursday 3 October. The Sport Wellington Big Annual Buggy Walk is the largest of the free monthly buggy walks put on each month by Sport Wellington, your Regional Sports Trust, in partnership with the Greater Regional Wellington Council. The Buggy Walks are a walking initiative to encourage parents, grandparents and caregivers to get active with their young ones in the parks and open spaces all over the Wellington region.
The event, now in its eighth year, ties in with the end of the Botanic Gardens’ Spring Festival and is more than just a walk in the park. The event brings together over a thousand lively participants, and continues to grow in quantity and quality each year according to Buggy Walk organiser Tania Atkinson, from Sport Wellington. “The gardens are in full bloom from tulips to poppies and the event offerings are just as bountiful. There’ll be live entertainment, spot prizes and more. Competitions include the ‘Trilogy Dress up your Buggy’ competition, and the phil&teds ‘Explore the Forest’ competition with chances to win a Trilogy gift basket, a $500 voucher from phil&teds, a car seat from Baby on the Move and much more!” says Atkinson.
The day begins at The Dell from 9.45am with some fairy fun as Fairy Felicity plays games and dances with the early birds, followed by Camille from Classic Hits 90.1 FM prior to the 10.30am walk start. Plunket will be brightening the skies with colourful balloons, the Cancer Society providing some shade and child friendly sun block, and ‘Kev the Kiwi’ giving lots of hugs. The social and fun atmosphere doesn’t stop there as free Caffe L’affare coffee and a Southern Cross Garden Bar BBQ will warm hands and fill bellies and jazz band ‘More Fun Than The Library’ finishes the event. Goodie bags packed with giveaways kindly donated by sponsors will be given upon completion of the walk.
“It is loads of fun, free and a great way to meet new people in the community” says Atkinson. So get out your walking shoes, grab your buggy, bring the family, get creative and enjoy the colours of spring! For more information, please see www.buggywalk.co.nz. Cancellations will be notified on the website and Buggy Walks Facebook page from 8.30am on the day of the walk.
